Mission X: Train Like an Astronaut at the House of Commons

Lucy Hawking awarded the certificates at the Mission X – Train Like an Astronaut event at the House of Commons on 4th December 2013. The event was a fascinating afternoon for schools who participated in the Mission X programme to relate their experiences and give tips to schools who would be joining the initiative. Dr Phillip Lee, co chair of the Parliamentary Space Committee gave an opening welcome followed by discussion led by Jeremy Curtis, head of the UK Space Agency. One of the schools demonstrated space nutrition by putting a Big Mac in a blender, probably the first time this has been done in a Committee room in the House of Commons!
The afternoon was followed by a Christmas party held by the Parliamentary Space Committee where Lucy and the students met MP Adam Arfiyie and had a chance to talk to astronaut Tim Peake.
